Author Notes

This recipe is from my great-grandmother, Mammit Laviolette. Growing up, she and Pappit lived behind our house in the countryside of Louisiana. Since pecans were plentiful (hand-picked from our own backyard), Mammit used them to make this special 'candy' which the whole family came to love. We have kept the tradition alive by giving these out as Christmas gifts to both family & friends. Enjoy & pass along - Mammit would be happy :) —Julie Dugas

What You'll Need
Ingredients
  • 1 quart ground pecans
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1.5 cups sugar
Directions
  1. Beat egg whites until stiff, then gradually add sugar.
  2. Add pecans to mixture and mix well.
  3. Shape into small balls and place on greased cookie sheet.
  4. Bake for 30-45 mins @ 275 degrees. Do not overcook, as they harden while cooling.
