Author Notes

This bubbly mango drink hits all the right notes: sweet, tart, and spicy. If you want the drink to be less spicy, you can deseed the jalapeño prior to adding it in the simple syrup. It’s the perfect thing to sip on at the end of a long week! —Catherine Yoo

Ingredients
  • For the jalapeño simple syrup:
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 fresh jalapeño, halved
  • For the drink:
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 cup ice
  • Coarse sea salt, for the rim
  • 3 ounces mango nectar
  • 1/2 ounce jalapeño simple syrup
  • 1 fresh lime (reserve 1 ounce juice, slice the remaining half into thin rounds)
  • 4 ounces club soda
  • 1 fresh mango, sliced
Directions
  1. To make the jalapeño simple syrup: Mix the sugar and water in a small sauce pot. Over medium heat, add the halved jalapeño into the sugar water and stir until the sugar is dissolved, about 1 minute. Continue to steep the jalapeño in the simple syrup for about 5 minutes on low heat. You can deseed the jalapeño if you want it less spicy. Let cool, strain out the jalapeño, and set side.
  2. Rim a highball glass with sea salt and smoked paprika: Mix together the smoked paprika and salt on a small plate. Next, rub a lime wedge on the rim of the glass so that the lime juice is on the rim. Then, roll the rim around the sea salt and smoked paprika.
  3. Fill the glass with ice. Pour the mango nectar, lime juice, and jalapeño simple syrup directly into the glass.
  4. Top with club soda. Garnish with mango slices and lime slices. Make sure to stir the mixture before drinking.
