Southern Birria Tacos

Everyone is making Birria tacos but no one mentions how spicy they are or how many ingredients you need! So I broke it down and simmered down the heat and made it into a southern twist of birria tacos. —Tiffany Audia

Ingredients
  • 3lbs Roast beef or a roast cut
  • 1 Yellow onion
  • 1 Can of tomato paste 6oz
  • 2 Chicken boullion cubes
  • 1 Bunch cilantro or parlsey
  • 1/2 Green bell pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 Jalapeno pepper to garnish sauce
  • 1 packet Shredded cheese like mexican blend
  • 1 Container of sour cream to dip in ( optional)
Directions
  1. Bring skillet to med high heat. Now cover beef roast with black pepper on each side and then add tablespoon corn starch to each side rubbing in. Add beef to skillet and brown on each side about 3 mins.
  2. Drain some of the oil from cooking. And now add 1 can of tomato paste, cover meat with water, 1 tablespoon of garlic powder, 2 tablespoons onion powder, black pepper ,adobo seasoning ( 2 tablespoons), 2 tablespoons chili powder, 2 chicken boullion cubes, 1/2 onion throw in , 1/2 green bell pepper , 3 garlic cloves ( smashed) , 1 tablespoon crushed red pepper . let simmer 6 -8 hours in crock pot
  3. Shred meat with fork. Remove meat from sauce and set aside. Heat a non stick skillet with a little oil. Now dip 1 corn tortilla in the sauce the meat cooked in and add to skillet. Now add shredded meat, some cheese, some diced onionm let simmer then fold one side over like taco. Now let cook 2 mins per side. And the plate on a napkin on another plate to drain before you serve.
  4. Continue steps until out of tortillas. Now serve Tacos with some of the sauce leftover in a dish add some diced onion and cilantro to dip taco in. I like to also add fresh lime and sour cream on side.
