This is the quickest way to make any home smell Finnish.
Socialising around a cup of coffee at someone's home is a distinctively Nordic thing. The Swedes even have a word for this: 'fika'. Naturally, there is also a tradition of cozy, rustic coffee breads.
This cake stays delicious for several days and can be enjoyed plain with just a cup of coffee. If you feel like it, you can serve it with jam or whipped cream. I could imagine it pairs well with different syrups or a quick zabaglione, too.

Ingredients

200 milliliters
sugar

300 milliliters
half-and-half cream

100 milliliters
melted butter

1 tablespoon
ground cardamom

2 cups
all purpose flour

3 teaspoons
baking powder

pearl sugar
Directions

Mix sugar and eggs.

Add half-and-half, melted butter and cardamom.

In another bowl, mix baking powder and flour. Add mixture into the liquid and mix as little as possible.

Pour the batter into a buttered flat-bottom pan (diameter 8 to 10 in). I use a straight-walled non-stick pot.

Sprinkle with some pearl sugar.

Bake in 350F for 50 to 60 minutes. If the top gets too dark, cover with foil.
