What about it??Its affectionately known as stinky spice.
Its the onion/garlic taste substitute for orthodox hindu's who believe its taboo to eat alliums..(never mind that a large subset of this population will not touch fennel either.. Guess what? Asafetida is derived from the root of the giant fennel plant!)
