I just looked at my little jar that I bought at h-Mart and there is no msg. Then I went to Amazon and looked at many different furikake and none of them contained msg. Did you run across a brand that contains it or were you just assuming that it did? Definitely look at the choices on Amazon if you don't care to make your own.

my sister asked for it for Christmas, she said she hadn't been able to find it.
does anyone have specific brand recommendations?

Ugh.. Amazon link keeps reverting to the app which won't let me copy the URL. Click on this link. The second furikake to the right is the one my guy at h-Mart recommended and the one I've always bought. It's the one that says "Amazon's choice". JFC-Nori Mom I furikake.

Seconding ktr's suggestion to make it at home, here's a recipe to get you started: https://food52.com/recipes/39833-furikake-japanese-seasoning-mix

I'd try looking online. Otherwise, it is pretty easy to make at home and then you can control the ingredients.
