Homemade chocolate extract: unsweetened cacao chips ok vs nibs?

I think the cacao nibs are preferable. I don't know that you can extract easily with solid chips. Most recipes use unsweetened cocoa powder. If cacao chips is all you have, might want to grinder or grate until somewhat fine.
