Why did my chess pie have a green tint to it?

I used my mother in laws recipe that I’ve used for years and never had it have a green tint, what could have made it turn out that way?

I've never seen this happen, but we've all, I think, seen a hard boiled egg that was cooked too long that developed a green ring around the yolk. I did some poking around in food-science land where I learned that overheating an egg causes hydrogen sulfide in the egg white to react with iron present in the yolk, which forms that grayish green compound you see in hard boiled eggs. That may be the explanation. ;o)

Can you tell us more about what’s in it?

Sugar, eggs, butter, flour, and vanilla flavoring. I used fresh eggs and real vanilla also.
