Netflix's New Baking Show Has a Hilarious Trailer

Baking shows tend to be all about perfection. We watch, with awe and delight, as masterful bakers whip and knead, whisk and shape raw ingredients into something magnificent. Wow, we muse, wouldn’t it be nice to taste something like that, nonetheless be able to make it? Sure. It would be. And maybe one day we can all achieve that level of kitchen confidence. But in the meantime, there’s a new Netflix baking show that’s less about the success and more about the mess. Nailed It is for the failure in all of us.

The show, set to premiere on March 9, follows the familiar game show format, but with a twist. In this show, there’s less of an emphasis on perfection—instead, it’s about embracing the mistakes. Ever tried to recreate that perfect Pinterest (or Food52!) cake and found that it just didn’t quite match up? Then Nailed It is for you. Check out the trailer:

Comedian Nicole Byer and chocolatier Jacques Torres will host the show and be joined each week by a guest star to help with the judging. The series is set to be six episodes long and will be released in its entirety on the streaming behemoth we all know and love. It feels lighthearted and off-kilter in a way that will for sure keep me entertained. Will I be tuning in? You bet.

I watched a few episodes thinking it would be lighthearted and fun. It isn't. It's basically a forum to make fun of people. I cannot watch the co-host Nicole Byer (or more accurately listen to her shrill shrieking). It is one of the most obnoxious shows I've ever seen. I cannot believe Jacques Torres has stooped to this level - very disappointing.

I haven't watched the show yet, but was excited to see it because I love cooking shows. Then I read these reviews. I love the GBBS precisely because it is kind. The judges are kind, the bakers are kind, people are kind and generous to each other. I started watching it last summer when I was home sick and couldn't figure out why I was so captivated by it, but it was so refreshing precisely because of the lack of aggression and meanness. The last thing I (we) need in our world at this point is more snarkiness, mean-spiritedness and posturing. Gonna pass on this one.

Totally agree with the other comments about how different the shows are. GBBS contestants are more genuine without all of the trash talk and mean spiritedness. With the american shows they seem to love having people who are outspoken and obnoxious. Hope the rest of the world doesn't think we are all like that!! ;)

Never, ever, will an American baking show equal the Great British Baking show and people need to stop comparing every other baking show on American t.v. to GBBS. American shows are full of unrealistic time frames, back-stabbing competitors and mean judges. I rarely watch them because I don't learn anything new from them and they are not even entertaining.

You are so right. It’s a steal, right down to the signature ‘Go!’ In the English version, the bakers (not contestants and especially not competitors) seemed genuinely sorry to see an individual go.

See, what I love about The Great British Baking Show, the bakers baked for fun, there was no money attached. Adding $10000 doesn't make me want to bake my heart out just to show that I can do it.
