3 Bedding Ideas to Try this Fall
Our no fail combos for making an ultra-cozy and considered bed.

Here at Schoolhouse, there are two things we take extra seriously—sleep and styling. Pair the two together, and we've got the ultimate passion project. From crisp cotton to laid-back linen, there are so many reasons why we think everyone should personalize their space with quality bedding. The best part? You can easily switch up your space using the same base layers. If you find yourself craving change, this post is for you. Below we share a few ways to style different bed-scapes using our go-to Schoolhouse staples.
Anatomy of a Bed
Before we dive in: a note about bedding. A fun way to think about bedding is to relate it to a four-layer clothing system. To spell it out: sheet sets are base layers, duvets are mid-layers, quilts + coverlets are outerwear, and everything else (like throw pillows) are accessories. As in clothing, you may be tempted to skip out on investing in the basics, but we can't stress enough how much materials matter.
1. Pattern Play
Layering textures and color can make a room feel interesting, but not aesthetically overwhelming. The trick is to stick with a calming color palette and include playful coordinating patterns. Below, we pair the Gingham Pillow Case Set and Stillwater Floral Quilt in juniper green with a neutral polka dot sheet set and solid linen duvet cover for a fun (but still cohesive) look.
Pro Tip: Mix a large-scale pattern with a small-scale print to create contrast and balance. For example, if you have a large floral print as your dominant pattern, complement it with smaller geometric or polka dot patterns.
2. Heirloom Inspired
At Schoolhouse, we talk a lot about heirlooms, and it's because memory plays a big part in what you find comforting. Many of our most vivid moments are times spent with loved ones at home. To us, there's nothing cozier than a blanket that reminds us of our grandma's house or a piece of furniture that looks like the one from our childhood miniature set. Styling a space based on this concept can help make your sanctuary feel extra serene.
Pro Tip: Style old and new textiles for a time-honored touch. We find that the most interesting spaces layer in pieces with a past.
3. Elevated Neutrals
This setup is for those looking for the best of both worlds. If you're craving a pop of personality but still want a neutral feel, layer in pattern, but try to work with a set color palette. Below, the varying hues of yellow set a monochrome mood while the cozy texture from the quilt add visual variety.
Pro Tip: Stick to neutral basics and liven it up with fun throw pillows that can easily be swapped at a moment's notice.
