At Food52, we’ve seen how the power of community can affect what we eat and how we gather. On November 12, Food52’s CFO, George Wells, will put that ethos into action as he co-hosts the Project EATS fall gala honoring artist and filmmaker Arthur Jafa at Chelsea Factory in New York City.
“I was truly inspired to join the board of Project EATS after a powerful conversation with [Hauser & Wirth president] Marc Payot," Wells said. "Hearing about the organization's incredible work to eliminate food poverty right here in New York moved me deeply. It's all about transforming communities, one meal, one farm, one story at a time—and I knew I had to be part of that journey."
Since last year, Wells has been working with Project EATS as it works to accomplish its mission by transforming vacant lots and rooftops into community farms or, as they call them, “living installations.” Today, Project EATS partners with residents and local organizations to operate 17 farms across New York City, providing fresh produce to underserved communities and those facing economic and social challenges in New York City.

Acting on it’s dual role as artwork and a force for social change, Project EATS is celebrating its 15th Anniversary at the November 12 gala while also honoring Jafa, whose powerful work explores Black identity and culture and matches the non-profit’s vision: to create art that feeds both the body and the soul.
The night will also feature a plant-based menu by chef Sean Froedtert and bring together a diverse group of supporters from the art and food worlds, co-chaired by leaders like Marc Payot, Sarah Harrelson, Anne Delaney, and Lorna Simpson—all committed to advancing the mission of Project EATS.
