Cleaning very burnt Dansk butter warmer

Any tips on removing charred balsamic glaze from Dansk butter warmer? It’s soaking in vinegar now which seems to working but open to any recommendations you may have

Hi Amy! We suggest making a thick paste from regular baking soda and a little water and spreading it over the affected areas. Let stand for at least 30 minutes (but overnight doesn't hurt) and then wash & dry as usual.

If that doesn't work, we recommend Bar Keeper's Friend. Simply place the pot in the sink, dampen it with water, sprinkle Bar Keeper's Friend over the problem areas, and scrub—rather firmly—with a paper towel.

Hope these suggestions help bring your Butter Warmer back to life!

I'd use Dawn Powerwash dish detergent

I would make a baking soda paste with a little water. Smear the paste on the charred areas and leave it for about an hour or longer. Then scour the burnt spots with a plastic scrub pad (like Scrub Daddy, etc).
Or, you can file the butter warmer with water and add a few tablespoons of baking soda; then bring it to a boil or simmer. This would help soften the char and which you can then scrub or scrap off.

You can also use Bar Keepers Friend which is oxalic acid (so use gloves, it can irritate skin) to scrub away the burnt on bits.

Do not mix baking soda and vinegar together. This won't do anything because the fizzing is an acid-base reaction between baking soda (base) and vinegar (acid), which produces water, a sodium salt, and carbon dioxide gas (the fizz). The bubbles/fizz is not from reaction with the burnt-on glaze.

See thespruce.com for directions on using baking Soda and vinegar to remove burnt stains from pans.

I’ve used this method on Dansk pans and it worked - with no damage.
