What You'll Need
Ingredients
  • Temater Chicken
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 tsp Raisins
  • 1 slice fresh ginger root
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons cumin
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom
  • 1 (1 inch) piece cinnamon stick, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 6 skinless chicken thighs
  • 2 whole peeled tomatoes, choppd
Directions
  1. Place onion, garlic ,raisins cumin, turmeric, pepper, cardamom, cinnamon ,nutmeg and ginger in a food processor and process into a paste.
  2. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat, add onion paste and sauté, stirring continuously, for about 10 minutes.
  3. Stir masala Saute, stirring, for 1 to 2 minutes. Place chicken pieces in skillet and stir them around with the spice mixture until they are well coated.
  4. Sauté for another 4 minutes, then pour in the tomatoes with liquid and stir. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 40 minute , or until the oil has separated from the liquid. Stir occasionally. (Note: If you simmer uncovered, the sauce will thicken; add hot water, or keep covered while simmering.)

I tried this recipe. A couple of observations; no mention of where the cloves or bay leaves go. No mention of masala; is that an addition to the recipe? I improvised as I went and this is absolutely delicious, but would love some clarification so I know I am doing it correctly.

Just finished eating - this was AMAZING! So easy to make and such great flavor. I tossed in a can of fire roasted dice tomatoes because the supermarket tomatoes this time of year are tasteless. The house smells amazing, and I'm sure this will be even better tomorrow. I served it with Rivka's ever popular Mujaddara with spiced yogurt - perfect with this dish!
