Author Notes

I love blackberries and basil but never thought of putting them together. I decided to try and it's amazing. This syrup can be used in so many different ways a milkshake, mix with soda water, an ice cream soda,an egg cream or wherever your imagination takes you. Its best to let the syrup sit overnight in the refrigerator to get the full impact of the blackberries and basil. - sdebrango —sdebrango

Test Kitchen Notes

This was delicious! Creamy, sweet, and a just a little tart. The basil was a nice touch. It made it completely refreshing and a nice change from the typical mint in a dessert. The syrup was super easy to make. It was delicious in the milkshake, but I think it would also be great on cheesecake or drizzled over a lemon cake with some whipped cream. This is a great treat for kids of all ages. Yes, in spite of the basil, my kids loved it! Basil in sweet-tart desserts is genius! Lovely recipe sdebrango! This was my first attempt at a syrup and it went swimmingly! —chichel

I have loved to cook for as long as I can remember, am self taught learning as I go. I come from a large Italian family and food was at the center of almost every gathering. My grandfather made his own wine and I remember the barrels of wine in the cellar of my grandfathers home, I watched my mother and aunts making homemade pasta and remember how wonderful it was to sit down to a truly amazing dinner. Cooking for me is a way to express myself its my creative outlet. I enjoy making all types of food but especially enjoy baking, I live in Brooklyn, NY, and I share my home with my two dogs Izzy and Nando. I like to collect cookbooks and scour magazines and newspapers for recipes. I hope one day to organize them.

Oh man, I love this! I made an ice cream last year with blackberries, sage and creme de cassis that was a hit. I will have to make this milkshake now!

How did this get past me? And why would anyone use less than whole milk? So beautiful in colors and flavors.

Yum! I bet you could turn this concept into a killer martini (sans the ice cream.)
