After lots of experimentation and a look into the (really, really interesting!) history of the Hot Toddy, I discovered my favorite method is to go light on the sugar but heavy on the citrus. You know, for its medicinal properties (ahem). —Wonderland Kitchen

What You'll Need
  • 1/2 orange, juiced
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 2 ounces bourbon or rye
  • 4 ounces hot water
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1 pinch nutmeg
  1. Juice the citrus into a footed glass mug. Add spirit of your choice and hot water. Stir in the honey and garnish with a scratch of nutmeg, which "lends a Dickensian note to the whole affair" a friend suggests.
