This is just barely off the traditional Old Fashioned recipe, but somehow it only makes sense to pair maple syrup's rich, deep sweetness with the caramel notes of bourbon. It creates just the thing I want to sip on the last few cool evenings we have as we head towards the warmer spring and summer weather. If you want the drink just slightly less sweet mix it up with rye instead of bourbon. A dark, aged rum would make a fun variation as well. —ChompingTheBigApple
This very tasty drink could not be easier to make. I simply whisked the water and maple syrup together until well blended, cut a couple of strips of lemon peel, and measured out the ingredients. My husband and I both enjoyed the drink immensely, especially when using a scant 1 tablespoon of maple syrup. The sweetness of the maple tempers the edge from the bourbon, and the little spritz of lemon oil adds a note of freshness. —hardlikearmour
