Author Notes

Potent compounds in the wasabi paste inflame your nostrils, and, when rapidly imbibed, the ice slurry induces a brain freeze by chilling the capillaries in your sinuses. These two effects combine to numb the lower brow, and release your third eye from its cage of flesh.
(recipe very loosely adapted from Bon Appetite's strawberry-soy milk shake) —Peter Colwell

What You'll Need
Ingredients
  • 2 cups soy milk
  • 2 cups crushed ice
  • 5 tablespoons wasabi paste, such as S&B
  • 10 tablespoons water
Directions
  1. In a small bowl, stir water with wasabi paste to form a thin liquid mixture.
  2. Purée all ingredients - including wasabi-water mixture -in a blender until smooth.
  3. Pour and serve. Drink rapidly for desired effect.

Though I do not often partake in the consumption of wasabi, I do very much enjoy liquor and all relevant drinks. I was very pleased by the kick this drink gave (as it reminded me of a shot of ouzo) but also with the comfort of a summertime smoothie. In the near future, this recipe will most assuredly make a reappearance in my home. Thanks!
