Author Notes
In my recipe file, I call this "The Cranberry Shock" because of its taste and color WOW factor. I saw it in the LA Times in 2006. It's credited to Damian Windsor at Bin 8945 Wine Bar & Bistro. He calls it Cranberry Delicious, and it is amazingly refreshing. Note: you want 100% cranberry juice, not the typical juice blend you find in supermarkets. Read the label ingredients to be sure. Trader Joe's sells the real thing. —JohnL

Ingredients
-
1/2
lime, cut into wedges for muddle
-
2
cubes sugar (I like to use a couple of packets of Splenda, or to taste)
-
6
fresh mint leaves
-
3 dashes
Angostura bitters
-
6 ounces
cranberry juice
Directions
-
In a shaker, muddle the lime with the sugar cubes and mint leaves (John's note: to "muddle", just use a French rolling pin or similar pestle-like tool to pound the lime wedges and mint for a few seconds to release their juices and flavors).
-
After muddling, fill shaker with ice and add 3 dashes of Angostura bitters and the cranberry juice. Shake well and pour (John's note: I assume you strain it) over ice into a 10-ounce highball glass.
