This recipe is very easy to make and a good way to add extra flavor to swiss chard. —SLD

Ingredients

2 pounds
(s) Swiss charc

2 tablespoons
butter
-
2 tablespoons
flour
-
1 and 1/2 teaspoons
sea salt, separated

1/2 cup
milk
-
2 cups
(s) american cheese, diced

1/2 cup
seasoned bread crumbs

2 tablespoons
melted butter
-
2 cups
(s) boiling water
Directions

Cut the stalks from the washed Swiss chard leaves into one-inch pieces.

Place the leaves in the bottom of a large stockpot.

Cover the Swiss chard leaves with 2 cups boiling water and 1/2 tsp. sea salt.

Place over high heat and boil for approximately 10 minutes, or until the Swiss chard is fully cooked

Drain well with a colander, making sure to press all of the water out of the Swiss chard.

In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, melt the butter and add in the flour and remaining salt, stirring constantly.

Add the milk and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly.

Add in the cheese and stir until it is melted.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a two-quart casserole dish.

Place the Swiss chard in the prepared casserole dish and cover with the cheese sauce.

Combine the bread crumbs with the melted butter and sprinkle over the casserole.

Bake for about 30 minutes.

Remove from oven and serve immediately.
