Author Notes

Spicy herbal cocktails are my favorite -- the pepper in this combines nicely with the bitter and earthy flavors from Cynar and celery. It looks and smells a bit like fresh potting soil, and is so refreshing with fresh cheese, salad, or pasta.

I find Cynar a bit overwhelming on its own, but the spicy vodka stands up to it nicely. I've made this with a 2:1 ratio of vodka to Cynar for a more assertive drink, and I liked that quite a bit too. —Becky Green
