Author Notes

Adapted from Nabisco, this is the easiest and simplest summer no-bake dessert. The layers of not-too-sweet chocolate wafers soften between billowy mounds of vanilla whipped cream. —Posie (Harwood) Brien

Ingredients
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 13 ounces Nabisco chocolate wafers (1 1/2 packages), or other thin cookie
Directions
  1. With a whisk or a stand mixer fit with a whisk attachment, whip the cream and vanilla together to stiff peaks.
  2. On a cake stand or large plate, arrange 7 wafer cookies in a circle (1 in the middle, six around the edges). Spread a layer of whipped cream on top, then another circle of cookies, then whipped cream, until you run out. Finish with a top layer of whipped cream.
  3. Refrigerate the cake overnight (or for at least 8 hours). Serve.

Agree that it is very annoying to see a recipe with a discontinued ingredient that is sorely missed by nearly everyone. Not a big fan of the Dewey's wafers but the whipped cream helps!

https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/chocolate-wafers-recipe. This is the link to a recipe for a chocolate wafer cookie King Arthur Baking, read the comments many unhappy people with same sentiment “how could they discontinue this cookie”. Cookie gets great reviews.

Crazy that they published this! I love this recipe and have known that the cookies have been discontinued. Reading it here is like pouring salt into a wound.

Oh SO SAD!!! I was so hankering for this favorite from childhood not too long ago only to find that the Nabisco Chocolate Wafers are no longer a thing. Not to be found anywhere. Anywhere. How is it possible that they were discontinued?? I started wondering though about the very thin Anna's Ginger Wafers. Maybe drizzle with chocolate sauce or shavings?

No clue. They have room for approximately 87,000 varieties of Oreos, and Triscuits, but not our beloved wafers. Harumph!

I just paid a lot for four boxes on eBay. Just received them. Wanted to make this classic one more time…….

I saw some ebay options but I'm squirmy about buying food on ebay and also had to wonder about whether they might be way stale. Were they stale?

I haven’t made this, because Nabisco discontinued their chocolate wafer cookies. Has anyone found a good substitute?

We've tried this with chocolate graham crackers. We can't always find the Nabisco brand (did they discontinue those too??). In SoCal we found a store brand at Albertsons. The chocolate flavor came through really well. We also tested a brand called Dewey's Bakery but we felt the chocolate flavor wasn't there at all.

I was looking for them because I used them for my marble cheesecake. I don't know if they discontinued chocolate grahams, but I remember seeing the chocolate Teddy Grahams when I was looking. I'll probably use those next time I try to make it. Thanks!

Let me know how the Teddy Grahams work out if you do try that.

Really kind of you to think I'll remember. LOL!

Dewey's Bakery brownie crisp cookies are the closest substitute for the now-discontinued Nabisco wafers. Almost exactly the same!

We used to layer these vertically with whipped cream to form a log, and then slice it on the diagonal. Very pretty striped servings, not too big...
