I love naan, and adding some tasty garnishes only makes it better. You can easily make this without the garlic and cilantro, if you wish. —Erin Jeanne McDowell

Ingredients
  • 1 pound all purpose flour (454 g)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (2 g)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced (15 g)
  • 1/4 cup cup cilantro, roughly chopped (24 g)
  • 1 (7 g) package yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water (226 g)
  • 1/3 cup Greek yogurt (76 g)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (15 g), plus more for brushing
  • kosher salt, as needed for garnish
Directions
  1. In a medium bowl (or use a mixer with a dough hook) combine the flour, salt, garlic, cilantro, and yeast. Add the water, yogurt, and butter slowly and mix to combine. Knead the dough for 5-6 minutes (3-4 in a mixer).
  2. Transfer the dough to an oiled bowl and allow to rise until double in size, about 45 minutes - 1 hour.
  3. Divide the dough into equal pieces (6-8 depending on the size you want). Use flour as needed to keep the dough from sticking.
  4. Heat a large saute pan over medium high heat. Brush the rolled out dough with the butter, and cook until browned lightly on each side, 1-2 minutes per side. Finish with a sprinkling of salt. Keep warm until ready to serve.

I always have three kinds of hot sauce in my purse. I have a soft spot for making people their favorite dessert, especially if it's wrapped in a pastry crust. My newest cookbook, Savory Baking, came out in Fall of 2022 - is full of recipes to translate a love of baking into recipes for breakfast, dinner, and everything in between!

"Ahhh, that's GOOD!!" said Mr. T, after biting into this delicious bread the other night. That sums it up perfectly. I served this with my Mulligutawny, the recipe for which I'll be posting soon. We'll definitely be making this naan again soon. Thanks for posting this!! ;o)
