Star Apple fruit is common in the Philippines but rarely used in the US. I wanted a festive but easy to make dessert for Events or Holidays so I came up with a Star Apple Tart recipe. —AmusingMaria

What You'll Need
Ingredients
  • 2 carambolas cut crosswise and seeded
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons butter (1 tablespoon each for filling and for crust)
  • 1 9 inch pie crust ready made or home made
  • 2 tablespoons lemon curd
  • 1 tablespoon fruit jelly (for glaze)
  • 1 teaspoon water (for glaze)
Directions
  1. *Pre heat oven to 350 degrees
  2. 1. Melt 1 tbsp butter on medium heat
  3. 2. Add star apples, brown sugar, and cornstarch, mix gently
  4. 3. Cook in medium low heat for 3 minutes or until mixture thickens and set aside
  5. 4. Unroll pie crust on a lightly greased cookie sheet
  6. 5. Spread lemon curd evenly on pie crust
  7. 6. Add star apple-sugar mixture in middle of pie crust, spread evenly leaving enough space on the sides to fold crust over the filling
  8. 7. Fold and tuck sides of pie crust and brush butter evenly on the crust
  9. 8. Bake for 10 minutes or until crust is golden brown
  10. 9. Take out of oven, set aside to cool
  11. 10. Warm fruit jelly and water over stove top or microwave, mix well
  12. 11. Brush jelly glaze over the tart
