Steamer Clams

Make this routinely while camping and shortly after harvesting fresh clams from the beach. Great recipe at home too. —ksagee

Ingredients
  • 80 Fresh Clams (In shell)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup Light Beer
  • 6 Cloves Garlic
  • onion
  • 8 Basil Leaves
  • 1/2 cup Butter
Directions
  1. Wash and clean clams. Set aside.
  2. Finely dice onion and garlic and fresh basil. Set aside.
  3. Melt butter in dutch oven over medium high heat. Add onion and garlic and saute until soft.
  4. Add water and beer and bring to boil.
  5. Add clams and basil and stir to combine all ingredients.
  6. Cover dutch oven and allow to steam for 8-10 minutes and until clams are open.
  7. Remove from heat, stir and serve with melted butter and bread if desired.

Hi ksagee, I saw your recipe and immediately checked it out, I have had a similar recipe many times at the beach and at home, sometimes at home we do this with linguine. THEN, I noticed you live only 20 miles from me (Gig Harbor)...here's to the PacNW! Excellent recipe, the basil gives it a special touch.
