Author Notes

While pleasantly strong, a classic Old Fashioned is a super-likable cocktail, with just enough sweetness to amp up bourbon’s warm vanilla-caramel notes. For a slightly richer version, swap out the simple syrup for one made with raw sugar; a flavored simple syrup would also work well here—I’d recommend orange or ginger (you can also slice a thin piece of ginger to use as a garnish, in addition to an orange twist). —Carey Jones
