Author Notes

These are the easiest dessert ever, needing only three ingredients: Oreos, cream cheese, and melted chocolate. I first started making this recipe in high school as a sleepover snack. In college, I only had a microwave in my dorm, but MacGyvered the recipe by crushing the cookies by hand and commandeering the mini-fridge. Now, years later, I like to make them fancy-schmancy with two kinds of chocolate: semi-sweet and white. (But trust me, they taste just as good with one or the other.) —Katie Macdonald

Oreo Balls
Ingredients
  • 8 ounces (1 package) cream cheese, softened
  • 36 Oreo cookies, finely crushed
  • 8 ounces (2 packages, 4 ounces each) Baker's Semi-Sweet Chocolate, broken into pieces, melted
  • 8 ounces (2 packages, 4 ounces each) Baker's White Chocolate, broken into pieces, melted
Directions
  1. Mix cream cheese and 3 cups cookie crumbs with spatula until blended.
  2. Using hands, shape into 48 balls about 1 inch in size. This is about 1 bite, so adjust accordingly if you'd like a heftier treat.
  3. Freeze for 10 minutes on wax paper-line cookie sheet.
  4. Coat half of the balls in melted semi-sweet chocolate and half in melted white chocolate. Place in single layer in shallow waxed paper-lined pan and sprinkle with remaining cookie crumbs.
  5. Refrigerate or freeze for 1 hour or until firm.

This was super super sweet, but also a super super hit at the party! We used semi-sweet chocolate. Easy to make. Next time we'll probably up the cream cheese to cookie ratio to make it less sweet and use dark chocolate. This recipe is a keeper.

They are super rich tasting; the smaller the better due to their richness. They should be called Oreo Poppers! The mint Oreos with peppermint candy canes on the white chocolate are perfect for the holiday season!

These are good, but VERY rich. I would make them even smaller next time, and add some coconut oil to the chocolate to thin it out so the coating isn’t so thick. So easy, fun, and delicious though!

These are too dang good. Made them for a holiday party and had multiple people request the recipe. To make them a little festive I swapped in Peppermint Oreos (365 brand) and added crushed candy canes on top. 10/10 will make again.

Do these begin to soften at room temperature?

Can you make these ahead? How long do they keep? :)

Perfect!

So now I have another question..if we omit the filling(which is sweet) do we need to incorporate more sugar or would it be sweet enough without the filling/
TeaForMe June 3, 2018
I think the chocolate coating makes it sweet enough, if for some reason you opt to use just chocolate cookies.
I do think you might be missing the essence of this recipe, however. Its simplicity makes it the perfect "dorm room" dessert. I think one could substitute any hard crumbly cookie with great results (thin mint version, anyone??).

Amazing... And addictive! I showed this recipe to my husband and the next day he came home with the ingredients! I can't wait to make and take to a summer party -- so easy to hide a container of these bonbons in a cooler;)

I really need to know for sure if the filling was utilized in college..the recipe states cookie crumbs..it would be difficult to have pure cookie crumbs if the white filling was included! Please..give us a definitive answer!!!!!!..you said you "think" the whole cookie gets smashed up.. How about trying it both ways and letting us know the outcome!!! Pretty please!!!!!!

Don’t they have oreo cookie crumbs at the grocery store, in the baking aisle? Using them may have a different outcome though....
