Author Notes

This recipe is my family’s go-to recipe for ribs. It’s saucy, sweet, and full of bursting flavor and caramelized goodness. Don’t even think of just eating just one. :)

If you prefer a fruitier version, add preserved chutney (about 2 tablespoons). If you enjoy spicy foods, add 1 teaspoon to 2 tablespoons of chili powder, sriracha, or chipotle sauce.

What You'll Need
  • Ribs
  • 2 slabs baby back ribs
  • Homemade BBQ Sauce
  • Homemade BBQ Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sugar or honey
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/3 cup pickle juice
  • 1/3 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup garlic powder or 6 cloves of garlic
  • 2 tablespoons onion powder
  • 1/2-1 cups BBQ sauce (pick your favorite brand)
  1. Ribs: Cut ribs into 2 bones/section and trim off some of the excess fat.
  2. Bring 2 ½ qts. of water in a large pot to a rolling boil. Add ribs into boiling water and bring to a rolling boil again. Turn flame down to low. Cover pot and continue to cook ribs for 45 minutes.
  3. Take ribs out and coat with Homemade BBQ Sauce. Marinate for at least 20 minutes or even overnight.
  4. Preheat grill to medium heat. Place ribs on the grill and cover. Flip ribs over to cook evenly. Grill until meat is tender and the BBQ sauce has caramelized.
  5. Homemade BBQ Sauce: Mix all ingredients together.
