Ingredients
  • 1/3 cup whole-milk Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 tablespoons white miso
  • 1/3 cup buttermilk
  • 3 tablespoons finely chopped chives
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped parsley
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped dill
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 teaspoons dijon mustard
  • 1 pinch smoked paprika
  • 1 pinch ground cayenne
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 pinch kosher salt, or to taste
Directions
  1. Combine the yogurt, mayo, and miso in a bowl. Stir with a fork until smooth. Add the buttermilk and stir again. Add the rest of the ingredients. Adjust to taste as needed: More vinegar for pucker and thinness. More mayo or yogurt for richness and thickness. More dijon and cayenne for kick. And on and on. Chill before serving.

Enjoyed this a lot! I didn't have white miso to hand so used a teaspoon of brown miso instead and also cut the amount of dijon mustard in half. Tasted as I went along, the smoked paprika makes it completely different - it's delicious both with and without! I'll look forward to trying this again with the intended white miso next time.

Love love love this dressing! I cut down the dijon to 1 tsp and add a bit of MSG to give it that real ranch taste

Yum!

Wonderful dressing. Pretty quick to put together and the miso added a nice bit of umami. I used brown rice miso and apple cider vinegar, since those were what I had, and they worked fine.

Great recipe. I've lately seen two other salad dressing recipes somewhere, I'm not sure where. A spicy cashew dressing made with ground nuts and a turmeric miso dressing. I think we've reached a point where store bought dressings in glass bottles just don't cut it anymore. A homemade vinaigrette can bring such joy, such liberation, mini empowerment. Hey, I can do this! I would love to see a good compilation of new and classic homemade dressings, uncooked sauces, and their applications in example recipes. Eating high fiber healthy food can seem like a lot of work and chewing. These wonderful dressings can inject great interest, bring multiple ingredients together to make a more harmonious whole. Otherwise, Life can seem like a lot of chewing and elimination. Too many grains and beans can make you mean. Yikes!

I've made this recipe a few times. Sometimes with fresh herbs, sometimes not if I didn't have them on hand. I just use dried dill, basil, oregano, and a bit of dried garlic along with the fresh garlic. Both versions are delicious. This is my new favorite salad dressing with greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, and thinly sliced onions. Thank you!

Thanks, Sarah! Love that you're playing around with the recipe and making it your own.

I could drink this by the gallon. Only change - one clove of garlic and I didn't have dill. Can't wait to make it again. And again. And again. Thankfully I have some leftover for tomorrow.

Hehe that's quite the compliment—thank you!

This is very good. I had kefir so I used that in place of buttermilk. I didn't have any fresh herbs and it was fine without. I put it on lots of things... carrots, celery, a kale salad with avocado and tomatoes. I imagine it would be great in many ways.

What brand of miso did you use?

I love Miso Master! You can order it online, or usually find it at Whole Foods. https://great-eastern-sun.com/shop/miso-master-miso/miso-master-organic-mellow-white-miso/

How long will it keep in fridge?
Emma L. July 8, 2018
Figure at least 5 days. From there, I like to give it a quick smell/taste check before using.

Would love the recipe to the gorgeous salad in the picture!

Hi Beth! We actually didn't use a recipe :) But it's more or less a Cobb salad: baby kale; avocado; soft-boiled eggs; roast chicken; blue cheese; and bacon.

Just served this dressing again last night over Little Gems, red onion, and cherry tomatoes and it is so delicious I can’t stop making it.
