Ingredients

margarine or butter

2 cups
brown sugar, packed

1 cup
quick oats

1 cup
boiling water

eggs, large

1 teaspoon
vanilla extract

all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon
ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon
allspice

1 teaspoon
baking soda
- Brown Sugar Icing

1/2 cup
butter or margarine

1 cup
light brown sugar, packed

2 tablespoons
milk
-
1 teaspoon
vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups
icing sugar
Directions
- Spice Cake

Preheat oven to 325 F.
Stir together margarine, brown sugar, oats, and boiling water.
Stir in eggs and vanilla.

Combine flour, cinnamon, allspice, and baking soda. Add to oat mixture and stir until just mixed.

Pour into a greased and floured 9×13 inch baking pan. Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean.
Frost with brown sugar icing while still warm. Let cool completely.
- Brown Sugar Icing

Mix all ingredients in small saucepan. Let it come to a boil for 2 minutes.

Remove from heat and add icing sugar to thicken. Stir vigorously to get rid of lumps. Spread on warm cake.
