Author Notes

This twist on a classic White Russian is perfect for the cold seasons. It instantly makes you feel cozy and creates this atmosphere where you want to snug up in front of a fireplace with thick socks and a thick, comfortable blanket. Also, it is sweet but not overly sweet.

For your easy reference: The recipe for the syrup is good for multiple servings, the cocktail recipe is good for one drink. Als the prep time refers to how long the syrup takes and cooking time is how long mixing the cocktail should take. —Sina

What You'll Need
Ingredients
  • For the Syrup
  • 9 ounces Water
  • 9 ounces Brown Sugar
  • 1 Cinnamon Sticks
  • 1 Vanilla Bean
  • 3 pieces Cloves
  • 1 tablespoon Pumpkin Pie Spice
  • For the Cocktail
  • 60 milliliters Dark Rum
  • 30 milliliters Kahlùa
  • 30 milliliters Heavy Cream
  • 1 tablespoon Pumpkin Pie Spiced Syrup
  • 1 pinch Cinnamon Powder
Directions
  1. For the Syrup
  2. In a saucepan, add water and brown sugar and bring it to a boil. Stir until the sugar is dissolved completely.
  3. Next, add the cinnamon stick, star anise, cloves, pumpkin pie spice, and the pulp from the vanilla bean and let the mixture simmer for 20 to 25 minutes until it has a slightly thick consistency. It should still be runny, though, as it will get thicker during cooling down.
  4. Now let the mixture cook down for a little and strain it into a glass bottle. The syrup can survive in your fridge for at least a couple of months.
  1. For the Cocktail
  2. Add Vodka, Kahlua, pumpkin-spiced syrup, and plenty of ice into your shaker. Now give it a good shake until the mix is well-chilled. Strain the drink in your cup or glass.
  3. Then pour the cream carefully via a bar- or tablespoon on top. Using a spoon helps the cream stay afloat for the typical White Russian look.
  4. Now sprinkle some Cinnamon Powder on top for garnish and enjoy!
