Ingredients
- For the cocktail:
-
1 1/2 ounces
Patrón Reposado
-
1 1/2 ounces
watermelon juice
-
1 ounce
freshly squeezed lime juice
-
3/4 ounce
basil syrup
-
Jarritos Grapefruit Soda, for topping
-
Fresh basil leaves, for garnish
- For the basil syrup:
-
1/2 cup
granulated white sugar
-
1/2 cup
water
-
1/2 cup
fresh basil leaves, packed
Directions
- For the cocktail:
-
Add all the ingredients—except the grapefruit soda—to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake to combine, about 10 to 20 seconds, then strain into a highball glass filled with ice. Top with the grapefruit soda and serve with a fresh basil garnish.
- For the basil syrup:
-
Combine sugar and water in a small saucepan and heat over medium, whisking constantly until the sugar dissolves. Once the syrup comes to a simmer, turn off the heat.
-
Add fresh basil leaves and gently press them down into the syrup with a fork until they’re fully submerged. Let the basil infuse for 30 minutes. Strain the syrup over a fine-mesh sieve to separate the leaves; press the leaves against the strainer to extract all the syrup.
-
Cool completely before using. If not using immediately, transfer to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to one month.
