Ingredients
-
2 cups
water
-
2 cups
sugar
-
2 cups
strawberries, sliced in half, plus more for garnish
-
1/2 cup
fresh basil leaves, plus more for garnish
-
1.5 cups
fresh lemon juice (about 6-8 lemons)
-
lemon rinds
Directions
-
Combine water, sugar, strawberries, basil and lemon rind in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Simmer for several minutes, then turn off the heat and let the liquid sit until completely cooled. Strain and set your simple syrup aside.
-
In a large pitcher, combine 2 cups cold water, lemon juice and simple syrup to taste - you might not need it all especially if the strawberries were nice and sweet and ripe.
-
Pour into glasses with ice cubes and garnish with additional basil leaves and whole strawberries. Serve cold and refrigerate any leftovers.
