The original recipe comes from my all-time favorite cookbook; I adapted this by switching out the White Cake Mix initially called for to a Red Velvet one, which I think is the main reason why these bars taste so good! During the summertime, I love delivering small batches of these treats to my neighbors and close friends. —Swara Bhatt

Ingredients

1 packet
Red Velvet Cake Mix

0.5 cups
Applesauce
-
1/3 cup
Canola Oil
-
14 ounces
Sweetened Condensed Milk

1 cup
Semisweet Chocolate Chips

0.25 cups
Unsalted Butter, Cubed
Directions

In a large bowl, combine the dry cake mix, eggs, and oil. Press two-thirds of the mixture into a greased 13x9 inch baking pan. Set remaining cake batter aside.

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the milk, chocolate chips, and butter. Microwave uncovered until chips and butter are melted; stir until smooth. Pour over crust.

Drop spoonfuls of remaining cake mixture over top. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool completely, then overnight, before cutting
