Author Notes
This is a family-favorite one-dish meal adapted from a Pennsylvania Dutch recipe my mom used to make when I was a kid. It's super easy and uses just a few ingredients. —Nancy S.
Ingredients
-
2
16-oz cans of butter beans, with liquid
-
1
small green pepper, chopped
-
1
medium Vidalia onion, chopped
-
1 tablespoon
brown sugar (to taste)
-
1/4 cup
ketchup (to taste)
-
10-12
breakfast sausage patties
Directions
-
Preheat oven to 350°
-
Mix the first five ingredients in a casserole dish. Adjust the ketchup and sugar as you add them, to suit your taste.
-
Line the top of the mixture with the sausage patties. (Using a casserole pan that's wider than deeper let's you fit more patties.)
-
Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.
-
Flip the sausage patties and bake for another 30 to 35 minutes to brown the other side.
-
Serve the baked beans and sausage patties with plenty of sauce.
