Is the American Dream dead? I can't say for sure, but it seems to be alive and well in Scandinavia. This cocktail was inspired by my frequent trips to the Systembolaget to obtain more aquavit during my summer trip to Sweden and is made using my most cherished souvenirs.
Aquavit has notes of dill and/or carraway and shines anywhere you would use gin. It harmonizes beautifully with the cloudberry, a uniquely-flavored and subtly earthy-tasting berry that grows in northern climates. You might be able to score a jar of cloudberry jam on your next trip to IKEA.
Use tonic water to emphasize the earthy and herbal notes, or substitute elderflower soda for extra-sweet dreams. —samantha johnson
