400-500 grams
ground beef, (1 lb or a little less)
salt and pepper to taste
2-3 tablespoons
olive oil
gnocchi or pasta
parmesan cheese, grated
Directions
Start the tomato sauce with a few dashes of water to simmer on low heat in a large saucepan (everything else will be going in). Fill a large pot with water and set it to boil for the gnocchi or pasta.
Dismantle the broccoli into tiny florets, <1cm, and likewise chop the stem into very small pieces. Mince the garlic and zest the lemon.
Brown the ground meat in a skillet on medium high, then add to the saucepan with the simmering tomato sauce.
Add 1-2 tblsp of olive oil to the skillet, then the broccoli, salt and pepper. Saute the broccoli on medium high, stirring frequently, until tender and slightly browned.
Push the broccoli to the edges of the skillet, and reduce the heat to medium low. Add 1 tblsp of olive oil at the center of the skillet, then add the minced garlic and lemon zest and cook until the garlic is just beginning to turn golden.
Stir the garlic together with the broccoli and add a few splashes of water to the pan to steam (can put a lid on this for a minute or two) and deglaze.
Add the broccoli and garlic to the saucepan with the tomato and beef. Simmer for a few minutes on low heat, then turn off the heat and add lemon juice, salt and pepper to taste.
While preparing the sauce, boil the gnocchi or pasta. Stir together with the sauce, and serve with gratings of parmesan.
