Author Notes
Rashbi also known as Rabi Shimon Bar Yochai was a well known teacher and kabbalist who wrote the Zohar (a book that contains mystical teachings of the Torah). He lived during the times of the Romans and hid in a secluded cave for thirteen years with his son Rabi Elazar. During those years he kept learning torah and survived on eating carobs. Some people say that the carob tree became a fig tree. He died on the 18th of Iyar and before Rashbi died he requested that everyone should celebrate his passing in joyous celebration! —redop770
