Melt with you.

A tall-sided saucepan like this one (c.1880) is hard to find, as they weren’t common. This one has been meticulously restored and polished to a high gleam by Coppermill Kitchen. By putting a little water to boil in it and then setting a bowl atop, it’s the perfect shape for double boiling—and just think how much it would elevate the task of gently melting chocolate, whipping egg whites, steaming asparagus, or keeping soup warm. It features dovetailed seams (a highly prized sign of skill for a 19th-century blacksmith) and heavy iron handles on both the pot and lid, secured with copper rivets. The pot’s underside is stamped with its maker’s mark, Benham and Frouds trademark "orb and cross" symbol (which we think is pretty secret society-cool); "CUNLIFFE,” a detailed crown, and "Jhonson & Avery 4 Conduit St W"—vestiges from the pot’s first owner—are stamped on the saucepan’s lid. Coppermill Kitchen has carefully restored two of these pots; the one you receive may differ slightly from this photo.
