Amana Woolen Mill
Amana, IA
Founded in 1855, Amana began as a small German community seeking religious freedom in the Iowa River Valley. They aimed to live simply and sustainably—to share with one another and produce everything they needed themselves. Although the communal lifestyle disbanded in the 1930s, the craftsmanship and tight-knit community is still apparent in the high quality products Amana produces today, 160 years later.
