Meet the Maker

Connor McGinn Studios

Tarrytown, NY
Masterful in creating serveware that makes every meal a celebration, it’s no surprise that Tarrytown, New York–based ceramicist Connor McGinn used to be a chef. Every platter, bowl, and plate that comes from his studio has been handthrown with both the food and cook in mind. Though he used to design dishes exclusively for restaurants, now you can snag his creations for your own meal-making (and oh, are we glad).

Excellent quality, but photos not accurate
We had had our eye on these for several months and finally pulled the trigger on a round platter in Sky and a medium serving bowl in Amber. They are really nicely made, obviously high quality. Unfortunately the colours are nothing like they appear in these photos. The 'amber' is more of a muddy mustard yellow, and the 'sky' is a dull gray with a blue tint. Really disappointing as we had some extra import charges into Canada, which we were fine with if these items had been as described. This is doing the maker a disservice too as his listing looks like it has a bad rating, even though the plates are definitely worth 5 stars. I'd recommend that everyone check out the original manufacturer's photos before buying anything from F52 so that you can get an idea of what they actually look like. F52 seems to crank the saturation and contrast on many photos, which makes them kind of misleading. I also noticed this on a few other items, e.g. the Andree Jardin ostrich feather duster - F52's photos make it look like the feathers are all black, but if you look at other photos of it around the web you can see there's a lot of mottled gray in the feathers (which is natural!).
