Making Cookies with Dorie Greenspan
Inspired by conversations on the FOOD52 Hotline, we're sharing tips and tricks that make navigating all of our kitchens easier and more fun. Today, Amanda and Merrill are in the kitchen with Dorie Greenspan.

Dorie Greenspan is one very busy lady -- between cookbook writing, hopping planes to and from Paris, and opening a new cookie shop in New York, we're amazed she had the time to stop by our test kitchen.
Not only did she make time to visit us, she showed up with a special cookie recipe, port, and some exciting news about a cookie contest she's judging. Big prizes await, so take a look at the video and check out the details below.
Want to win a day with Dorie? Here's more of what you need to know.
The Challenge: Create a cookie recipe that pairs with Bin 27 port.
How to Enter: Upload the recipe, along with a photo, here by December 31st.
The Grand Prize: A weekend in New York to cook with Jacques Torres and Dorie Greenspan, a KitchenAid Dual Fuel Double Oven Range, and a KitchenAid Professional 600 Series 6 Quart Bowl-Lift Stand Mixer.
The Runner Up: The winner of the People's Choice prize will get a KitchenAid Professional 600 Series 6 Quart Bowl-Lift Stand Mixer.
Good luck to everyone who enters! May the best cookie win!
And if you want to try the Port Jammer, you can pick some up at Dorie's new shop, Beurre & Sel or make them yourself! Save and print the recipe here.

One detail I'd appreciate is how long after removing from the oven should they cookies be removed from the muffin cups? They're cooling as I write this, and I'll likely figure it out, but it's omitted from the directions. Thanks. They smell divine!

Is Bin 27 a liqueur? I'm a bit confused by the video, as I've never seen Port enjoyed from anything other than a traditional glass with a very closed rim, for the obvious reasons. ;o)

BIN 27 is a ruby reserve Port - not a liquer. a lot of people are actually drinking Port out of white wine glasses these days to give the wine as much aeration as possible and soak up all of those berry and cassis notes. i do however, think Amanda's choice of glassware is very cute and probably similar to what Port was drunk out of back in the day.

Did I miss it or is the recipe for these Port Jammers nowhere to be found? Surely sharing it isn't going to hurt business at Beurre et Sel's one tiny shop. (It's also clear that the shop is making the cookies differently from the method shown on the video.)

Is it a recipe contest or a photo contest, or both? on the Bin facebook page it says photo contest. Also, why is California excluded?

the BIN 27 cookie rumble is a recipe contest (may the best one win!) but photos will be taken into consideration. plus a nice photo can't hurt to win votes for the People's Choice award.
unfortunately, by law, california residents can not win competitions on facebook. however, by january 1, 2013 - this ban will be lifted. regardless the BIN 27 Cookie Rumble misses this by a crumb! the last date to enter is December 31, 2012.
