Freeze excess butter cream frosting?

Made Whoopers-flavored cupcakes for my son's 21st birthday but the recipe made at least twice the frosting needed. It's delicious and was fiarly costly to prepare. Can I freeze it for future use? I'm thinking it would be amazing mixed into homemade ice cream, or on another cake.

Yes, just save it in small plastic containers. You can thaw it in the microwave or fridge.

Absolutely. I make it in huge batches and freeze it regularly. To reuse, thaw overnight in the fridge. The next day, scoop out 1/3 of it and melt it over a bain marie. Scoop the rest into the mixer bowl. Add the melted portion. Whip back to a spreadable consistency.

Many thanks for the advice! I think I will save it in at least two containers.
