Urgent! A question about a recipe: Toasted Coconut Gelato

I have a question about the recipe "Toasted Coconut Gelato" from NicoleCLang.After i added, egg and sugar mixture to milk and then coconut, the mixture didn't become thick. It was sort of heavy at bottom with coconut and watery liquid at top.When i drained after chilling, all left was watery liquid since coconut had absorbed most. I am not sure what i did wrong. Do you have any idea what could be wrong.Thanks.

It sounds like your custard didn't set - did you continue to cook as well after you added them, or did you just stir the remaining ingredients in?

Yes, i cooked it for another 15 mins.
