Can’t get pastry pride the right color

I use pastry pride as my frosting (whipped topping) when making cakes but I can never get a bright color no matter how much food coloring I put. If I put in the darkest color I have it doesn’t come out as dark unless I add a little black, but even then it’s not what I want. Right now I want it to be really bright colors. Thank you.
