Author Notes: When I think of eating ham, I think of savory and sticky sweet at the same time. I love making these little sandwiches which are perfectly paired with a steamy bowl of soup. My secret ingredient is the orange marmalade. It's an unexpected surprise that pairs well with the spicy Dijon mustard on the opposite side of the sandwich. If you don't have a panini press, grilling them on a saute pan is great too. I also love to cut these up into quarters and serve at cocktail parties. They pair well with a bubbly Prosecco...As always, Happy Eating! —jonewman
Serves 1 sandwich
- 2 Slices of Rosemary Artisian Bread
- 1 teaspoon Orange Marmalade
- 1 teaspoon Dijon Mustard
- 2 Thin Slices of Fresh Pear (Your Choice)
- 2 Thin Slices of Deli Style Ham
- 1 ounce Gruyere Cheese
- Butter for Toasting
- Place two slices of bread onto a plate. On one slice, spread the Dijon mustard and on the other slice spread the orange marmalade. Use more or less than a teaspoon, depending on size of bread and your personal preference.
- Now place two large, but thin slices of pear on top of the orange marmalade and then add the two slices of ham and the one ounce of cheese on top. Now put the other slice on top, dijon mustard side down.
- Butter the outsides of the sandwich and either place in a panini press or on a saute pan on medium - high heat. Grill until the cheese is melted and the outside of the sandwich is golden and toasted. Slice in half and serve immediately.
