What Do You Think of Pantone's 2018 Color of the Year?

Pantone, international purveyors of color, have graced us with 2018’s official color of the year. Its most recent choice is surprisingly bold; it’s electrifying and elegant. It’s…Ultra Violet.

The purple hue is decidedly shocking. Pantone describes Ultra Violet as “the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now.” Now that is a dramatic description, but one I can get behind. Color me interested, that’s for sure. Ultra Violet hearkens to royalty, artistic ingenuity. It feels warm and inviting yet effortlessly distant. Is this how we’re trying to be for 2018? Perhaps. In the meantime, we plucked our site for all things Ultra Violet—here’s what we found:

Here at Food52, we have a propensity to lean more natural in our color palette, with occasional pops of bright accents.But who knows? With 2018 around the corner, maybe it's time for us to inject some more of the electric purple shade into our lives.

This chaotic, unpredictable, worrisome world needs Ultra Violet in 2018. From the Pantone page linked above: “Historically, there has been a mystical or spiritual quality attached to Ultra Violet. The color is often associated with mindfulness practices, which offer a higher ground to those seeking refuge from today’s over-stimulated world. The use of purple-toned lighting in meditation spaces and other gathering places energizes the communities that gather there and inspire connection.“

I’m thrilled about Ultra Violet because it’s been a regular color on my painting palette for years. In fact, it’s tough for me to paint without purple of some sort. Part of the reason is that I NEVER use tube black but mix my own. It is much richer. Www.artfinder.com/sandi-ludescher

Fabulous and ethereal! Also very hard to capture, especially as a solid or flat color. Be interesting to se how it’s actually used.

A spectacular move. I love the richness, depth any mysteriousness of this colour. So opulent and a world away from last years Greenery. I say, YES!

Meh. I can see it on small objects perhaps but I wouldn’t necessarily paint an entire wall with this. I have nothing against violet (like those aubergine Peugeot salt and pepper mill you have) but ultra violet is something else
Plus...cosmos? Escape? Yeah, in view of the current state of the world, it’s nice to escape but let’s focus on fixing problems.
Ok, I’m taking this too seriously.
