If you've been keeping up with our Cookbook Club, you already know that the books we cook through are self-selected by the group. And, because we like to plan ahead—especially for library reserving and book purchasing and shipping purposes—we held a vote this week to find out what books you all wanted to bake through in our Cookbook Club for the months ahead in. Today, the results are revealed!
Consider these your beach reads:
June: The Moosewood Restaurant Table by The Moosewood Collective
July: Tartine All Day by Elisabeth Prueitt
August: Greece: The Cookbook by Vefa Alexiadou
September: Dining In by Alison Roman
If you're new to the Club, you should also know that our Bonus Book for the year is Six Seasons by Joshua McFadden. What is a bonus book, you ask? While we focus on one book a month, this is an extra book that members can cook through the whole year long, too. The group gets more time to cook through McFadden’s book, and members will always have this book as an option to cook from if they don’t have access to the book of the month.
Dreaming about new cookbooks makes us hungry. You, too?
If you're new to the Cookbook Club (welcome!), here's a quick primer on how to join in the fun:
1) Get the Book(s)
Buy a book or two—find them at your favorite local bookstore or online. Or, if you’re not ready to commit quite yet, check them out from your library or borrow a copy from a friend.
2) Read & Cook
Rather self-explanatory, as this is one of the most important parts of participating in a cookbook club, right? If you’re not sure where to begin, take a page from Assistant Editor (and regular cookbook reader) Katie Macdonald's playbook: she recommends reading through the entire introduction as well as 15 headnotes and recipes to get a feel for the cookbook, and then ideally, cooking at least three recipes.
3) Share Your Opinions
We chat in our Facebook group all month long! Join the Cookbook Club here and post pictures of what you bake from the books and share reviews, too. Fill everyone in on what you thought of the dish (remember to share the recipe name and even the page number, if possible). You can share photos on Instagram as well. Just remember to tag them with #f52cookbookclub.
We've been cooking our way through Gonzalo Guzmán and Stacy Adimando's Nopalito this month, and will continue to do so until the end of May—there's still plenty of time to join in!
Is there a book you'd love to see the Club cover? Tell us about it below!
