Grossy Pelosi Really, Really Loves This Mandoline
In fact, he's had it for almost five years.

I discovered Grossy during the pandemic and I just love Dan and his energy. I have always used a mandolin and just love my steel wool glove. Back to Dan - check out some of his gorgeous home space designs on his website - and also the vodka sawce.

There should be a law that mandolines cannot be sold without a no-cut glove included. ;o)

I agree, still recovering from slicing the tip of my little finger in January. After a trip to the Minor Injury dept at Kaiser, the nurse and doctor told me I was their third mandolin accident in the past few days. I'll use my knife , no more mandolins for me.....

I picked up a Progressive mandoline at a thrift store and I love it: the slicing options are all integrated—one knob for julienne slicing and another for crinkle cut—and it is so easy to clean. It replaced an Oxo for which I paid full price; the Oxo had a series of removable blades for different slicing options, so I either had to disassemble the thing to only use what I wanted, or disassemble the thing to wash everything because it got dirty. Ugh.
I did spring for the No Cry gloves since I’m a klutz; well worth it. IMHO, the holders that come with a mandoline are more trouble than they are worth: often big and bulky, poking holes in produce causing it to split, and I’d have to pull out a knife to slice the second half of the item anyway. No Cry all the way!

Mandolins are fantastic, and this one is a classic. But IMHO definitely go for the cut glove. You can store it with the mandolin and it takes all the risk out of it. You'll find yourself using it a lot more when you're not afraid of losing a finger.

I have a similar mandoline (Crate and Barrel label) that comes with a fairly efficient device to hold the piece being sliced; I'm kind of surprised that this one doesn't.

ps- am I really supposed to be impressed that he's had the thing for almost five years? Maybe it's a millennial thing; where I come from kitchen implements are expected to be permanent, but the young folk seem to live in a permanent shopping frenzy.

The mention of 5 years has (I think) to do with the blade still being sharp. Unusual for a blade to last years without re-sharpening
