It's no secret that here at Food52 we love all things Dansk. Especially when it's part of Dansk's Købenstyle collection.
If you're unfamiliar with Dansk—the Danish design brand that was founded in 1954 and has been part of the Food52 family for a while now—we'll bring you up to speed. From 1954 until the early 1980s, Dansk's designs were created by the Danish sculptor and designer, Jens Quistgaardare. Pieces under the Dansk name are known for their iconic mid-century aesthetic and bright, bold color palettes. They're multi-functional (the lid of the Købenstyle saucepan, for example, doubles as a trivet), durable enough to last decades, and are uniquely beautiful wares you'll want to have out on display.
In the words of Arati Menton, who wrote about the collectability of Dansk cookware pieces, “Back in 1954, Quistgaard’s artistic prowess was discovered by an American couple, Ted and Martha Nierenberg, who were visiting Copenhagen. The couple convinced him to design a line of cookware together, and Dansk was founded that same year. Two years later, Købenstyle became the name that Quistgaard chose for his first cookware series made from enameled steel—bright, beautiful, and practical.” Now, these pieces can be found in kitchens all over (even in Carrie Bradshaw's kitchen in the Sex and the City universe).
The decades-long love affair people have had for Dansk makes new releases and limited editions of their classic cookware and table pieces that much more exciting and drumroll please we've got one for you. For a limited time only, the wrapped handle water pitcher our Community is obsessed with is here in three new colors: Arugula, Chestnut, and Cornflower.
Fill these beautiful pitchers with water, batch cocktails, and summer spritzes, or just let it be oohed and aahed at as it sits on your table, coffee table, or mantle—there's no wrong way to use it. A word of wisdom from our Community Editor, Nicole Davis, though: “Dansk will not be restocking these limited edition pitchers when they sell out. And in case you missed the news, you can now earn rewards on your purchases through our brand-new loyalty program, The Table.”
