1. Layer Linens

When it comes to the table, we always like to start with textiles. We've found that layering thrifted finds with new pieces is an effortless way to create a fun, festive mood. Begin by selecting a table cloth. If you don’t have one and want to stick to a budget, try sourcing a vintage fabric from your local thrift shop (you can also use a table runner or skip the base layer altogether).

From there, pick a few napkin options. There are many reasons why we feel passionate that everyone should own a set of well-made cloth napkins. Although a seemingly simple piece of fabric, in reality these tiny textiles have the power to make or break a table—elevating them in a way that's fresh and fun or subtly sophisticated. They are also sustainable (since you can wash and reuse them) and incredibly versatile (perfect for parties, everyday dinners, or as a tea towel).

Styling Tip: Layer multiple linens for a fun and festive look. We've been loving these scalloped placemats + napkin pairing.

2. Mix + Match Serveware

It's no secret that we've long admired a mix beats match mentality. That said, mixing and matching doesn't necessarily mean you have to maximize on pattern every time. You can still make an interesting tablescape with solid linens, glasses, and dinnerware.

While mixing and matching colors or patterns can be a creative way to add visual interest, it can also be a bit tricky to get just right. We've had the most success when we select a palette to work within—choose two to three main hues that will tie everything together. If you want to include a pattern, limit yourself to two patterns total to create contrast and depth to your table.

Styling Tip: Mix + match neutral dinnerware and bright napkins or utensils for an easy + effortless seasonal table with a fun color pop.

3. Make a Statement

There are many ways to create a focal point, but the key is to keep it simple. Choose to decorate your table with a centerpiece, candles + candleholders, or fresh greenery. Think seasonally with any blooms in your backyard, foraged branches, or sprigs from the neighborhood.

Another lesser known styling tip is to use seasonal fruit or vegetables to decorate (think apples, squash, mini pumpkins). Not only is it a sustainable option, but it also makes a great gift that guests can take home with them.

Styling Tip: If you're looking for a more impactful room refresh, look beyond the table—upgrade your dining area with statement-making seating, ambient light fixtures, or a cozy area rug.

Last but not least, remember you can still be an excellent host and skip all the stress! The secret? be easy on yourself. At the end of the day, if you're having a good time, your guests will too! So try to relax and enjoy this special time with family and friends.
